Story Time in the Gardens 
 

Join us during Ladew’s regular season (April through October). These Story Time gatherings take place outdoors under shade trees in several of Ladew’s beautiful gardens, weather permitting. 

Times and ages: 10:30 - 11:15 am - ( Ages 2 to 4 recommended )     12:30 - 1:15 pm -  ( Ages 3 to 6 recommended )

Totally Turtles  Can you imagine getting around all day with a shell on your back? Come join us as we read about these amazing long-lived animals.

Flowers in the Garden  They come in all shapes and sizes. Flowers make us smile and scent the air. Let’s learn more about what attracts people and animals to these garden stand-outs.

Wednesday, Aug. 17

Art in the Garden  What is a topiary? Come explore Ladew’s world-famous sculptures made from plants and man-made materials.

Tuesday, Aug. 23

Let’s Go to the Fair  The state fair is in town! Who will win the pig races and pie-eating contests and who has grown the biggest pumpkin? Let’s celebrate our agricultural heritage.

Fall Story Time / Nature Stories and Crafts


Join us for an opportunity for young children and adults to gather together and actively participate in nature themes through literature, poetry, word plays, songs and outdoor exploration (weather dependent) or a craft.

 Beautiful Butterflies  Fluttering flowers, creeping caterpillars, and odd shaped chrysalises—let’s visit the butterfly house and read stories about these interesting insects.

 Party at the Pond  Splish! Splash! What is in the pond? Let’s read about and then explore some slippery critters

 Seeds on the Go  Some pop, some float, some drift down a river like a boat. Come find out about the many cool ways that seeds travel.

Halloween Harvest Moon “I see the moon and the moon sees me…” Let’s read about the mysterious moon and some of the animals that become active at night. 

Nature Stories and Crafts

Nature Stories and Crafts continues even after the gardens officially close to the public for the year (November - March).Participants join us in Ladew's Studio for a morning or afternoon of interactive nature stories, followed by making a fun take-home craft.

Fairytales From the tooth fairy and fairy godmothers to fairies of the forest and gardens, fairies are everywhere looking after us and things in nature.  Come join us as we read about these magical creatures.
