2020 Summer Nature Camps

Nature Camps at Ladew Gardens provide a unique, fun and educational experience for children aged 2 to 15. Ladew’s beautiful 250-acre property includes formal gardens, a native butterfly & caterpillar house, forests, meadows, ponds and streams. Staffed by our year-round, adult environmental educators and art instructors, we provide a low teacher to camper ratio and incorporate engaging STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math) activities throughout our curriculum.

Ladew is a Maryland Certified Youth Camp (MCYC) through the MD Department of Health and Mental Hygiene.

ART IN NATURE CAMP Inspired by Nature
This teen camp celebrates exploration and learning, inspires curiosity and empowers students with new tools and techniques to spark creativity. Under the guidance of experienced, professional artists, students will have more independence and be encouraged to embrace their own personal artistic style. Resident sculptor Laura Amussen will work with students on the creation of their own personal mandala using natural materials. While exploring Ladew’s gardens, meadows and forests, hikes and field work will include daily observations, sketching and citizen science. Art projects will be inspired by nature's abundant life, the magical life cycle of butterflies and the interwoven relationships between plants, people and wildlife. Students will improve skills and experiment with a variety of styles, unique techniques, and traditional and newer art materials. Projects include drawing, painting, environmental art and 3-D work. All skill levels are welcome in this fun, supportive and non-competitive environment. Students are welcome to bring their favorite music to get the creative juices flowing.
